We are excited to share the news of our S.A.F.E (Strategic Alliance for Europeans) project – a new partnership between Here for Good, Seraphus and Wilson Solicitors LLP to challenge systems that put Europeans and their families at risk.
EU citizens and their families not fully protected by the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) and the Withdrawal Agreement face many vulnerabilities without legal protections. This disproportionately impacts large groups of marginalised people and their families including those who are digitally excluded, destitute, homeless or on low income.
Over the next three years, Here for Good, Seraphus and Wilson Solicitors LLP will combine our strengths in legal policy development, complex casework and strategic litigation to ease the constraints of the EU Settlement Scheme, so that people currently excluded by the scheme can have their rights protected by the scheme in future. Concurrently we will consider changes needed to immigration law, so it reflects changes since Brexit with the aim of developing alternative protections for those excluded by the EUSS.
We will gather case data, analyse trends and conduct research to support our policy work and strategic legal challenges. At the heart of this work is also increasing the capacity of charities already working on complex casework arising from fast paced changes to the EUSS landscape.
The core team consists of Mala Savjani and Nina Pulimood – solicitors at Wilsons Solicitors LLP – who will undertake the strategic legal challenges of the project, and Anna Hawkes – lawyerat Seraphus – who will lead on the legal policy work for the project. The team will work closely with legal policy colleagues at Seraphus and Here for Good.
